The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), which is under the control of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration, has publicly praised the late Robert Mugabe and Joshua Nkomo for their pivotal roles in establishing the Unity Accord in 1987.
On Monday, ZBC reported that the Unity Accord, which marked a significant political milestone 37 years ago, was lauded for its contributions to inclusive development across Zimbabwe. The report highlighted how the Accord, underpinned by the philosophy of the Second Republic, “leaves no one and no place behind.”
“The 1987 Unity Accord has been hailed for propelling inclusive development across the country, buttressed by the Second Republic’s philosophy of leaving no one and no place behind,” the ZBC broadcast noted.
The historic agreement between Cde Robert Gabriel Mugabe, leader of the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU), and Dr. Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo, leader of the Zimbabwe African People’s Union (ZAPU), resulted in a strong alliance. This alliance, according to the ZBC, has become “the bedrock for defeating neo-imperialists under ZANU PF.”
