Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has responded to Marcus Rashford’s recent comments, where the striker suggested that he no longer feels wanted at the club and may be seeking a move away.

Rashford was excluded from the squad for United’s derby victory over Manchester City on Sunday, with Amorim clarifying that the omission was not due to injury or disciplinary reasons.

In a recent interview with journalist Henry Winter, Rashford revealed he is “ready for a new challenge and the next steps” in his career.

Addressing Rashford’s remarks on Wednesday ahead of the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Tottenham, Amorim expressed that his striker could still find the challenge he seeks by remaining at Old Trafford.

“I think it’s right,” the manager said when asked about Rashford’s desire for a new challenge. “We have a new challenge here. It’s a tough one, and for me, it’s the biggest challenge in football. We’re in a difficult situation, and I’ve already said this is one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“This is a fresh and significant challenge, and I really hope all my players are ready for it.”

Amorim went on to clarify that he had not yet spoken to Rashford about his comments, as he had given the squad a day off on Tuesday. “He’s our player and ready for the next game,” he said.

“I’ve spoken to many players individually and during training, but what matters to me is bringing out the best in Marcus Rashford. I don’t focus on the future, only on the present,” Amorim added.

“I want to get the best out of every player. That’s my priority. I just want to win and help the team improve. We are a better team with Marcus Rashford, and we’ll explore different ways to help him reach the high levels he’s shown in the past. That’s my focus.”
