Son in Court for Attacking Mother
A shocking incident in Plumtree has left a community reeling after a 30-year-old man, Methuseli Mvundla, assaulted his mother with an axe handle for not greeting her. The victim, 52-year-old Zenzo Sibanda, narrowly escaped with her life.
Mvundla appeared before Magistrate Joshua Nembaware at the Plumtree Magistrates’ Court, where he was remanded in custody until December 27. Prosecutor Voster Makuwerere presented the state’s case, revealing the disturbing details of the assault.
On November 17, Mvundla was asleep at his mother’s house. Upon waking, he washed his face and proceeded to the kitchen, where his mother was. When she asked why he hadn’t greeted her, Mvundla became enraged, assaulting her with his bare hands. He then grabbed an axe handle and struck her once on the leg.
Fearing for her life, Sibanda fled the yard, and a police report was filed, leading to Mvundla’s arrest. The court has taken a stern stance, remanding him in custody as the investigation continues.
This disturbing incident highlights the alarming rise in domestic violence and the need for greater awareness and support for victims.
