Sbusiso Lawrence who murdered his girlfriend due to infidelity has reportedly taken his own life.
The young man killed himself by hanging on a tree close to where he brutally killed his girlfriend, Nontobeko Cele.
South African police’s Robert Netshiunda revealed the couple is believed to have been in a gender-based violence-related altercation.
“Police are investigating a case of murder and an inquest docket will also be opened for further investigation,” he said.
Lawrence shared a video on social media, where he explained why he killed his woman.
“You’re going to say I’m cruel. I’ve worked hard in my life trying to satisfy a woman and make her happy. I tried my best and lost a lot of things including money.
“I tolerated her after she gave birth to a child that’s not mine and I took care of both of them. She got tired of me and broke up with me because she’s about to get money from Road Accident Fund so I’m no longer good enough for her,” he said.
South African police Minister Senzo Mchunu said: “This shocking incident is a grim reminder of the ongoing scourge of gender-based violence in our society. Such acts of violence are a betrayal of our shared humanity and have no place in our nation.
“Furthermore, the use of social media to amplify such cruelty is utterly unacceptable and reflects a disregard for basic decency and the dignity of others.”
KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Thamsanqa Ntuli issued a statement saying; “Tragically, the perpetrator has taken his own life, denying us the opportunity to ensure that justice is served for such an evil act. This incident underscores the urgency of addressing this scourge.
“This horrific incident occurs shortly after the launch of the 365 Days of No Violence Against Women and Children campaign, highlighting the need for sustained and intensified efforts to eradicate gender-based violence and femicide in our communities.
“Violence against women is an attack on our humanity and the values we uphold as a society. As a province, we will not tolerate such actions, and we must work together to ensure women and children feel safe and protected.”
