Four More SANDF Soldiers Killed in DRC Amid Escalating Conflict with M23 Rebels

The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has confirmed the deaths of four additional soldiers in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The troops succumbed to injuries sustained during combat with the M23 rebel group.

These soldiers were part of a peacekeeping mission supporting the DRC in its efforts to prevent the rebels from overtaking the strategic city of Goma. With these latest casualties, the total number of SANDF troops killed in the ongoing offensive now stands at 13.

The conflict has also taken a toll on civilians, with 17 reported dead during clashes between the Congolese military and M23 fighters. The intensified fighting has worsened an already dire humanitarian situation, displacing over 400,000 people since the start of 2025.

The SANDF continues its mission in the region despite the mounting challenges, as the situation grows increasingly volatile.
