Zimbabwean footballers plying their trade across the globe experienced mixed fortunes over the weekend.
In English League One, Isaac Mabaya made his second appearance for Wigan Athletic, coming on as a second-half substitute in the 2-0 loss to Leyton Orient.
Mabaya, who joined the team this month on a season-long loan deal from Liverpool, played the final twenty-three minutes of the game at right-back.
Brendan Galloway started in Plymouth Argyle’s first XI that lost 2-0 to Bolton Wanderers and played for 77 minutes, while Tendayi Darikwa also started for Lincoln City in their 2-0 defeat to AFC Wimbledon.
Reading midfielder Tivonge Rushesha and Luton Town star Marvelous Nakamba both missed the weekend’s action.
However, Nakamba featured for Luton’s U21s in midweek as he continued working on his fitness.
Elsewhere in the UK, Tawanda Maswanhise featured in Motherwell’s goalless draw against St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership.
The 22-year-old operated on the wing but found goal-scoring chances hard to come by, registering only one effort on goal.
In the Major League Soccer (USA), Cincinnati defender Teenage Hadebe was an unused substitute in the 1-0 loss to Charlotte.
KV Mechelen winger Bill Antonio played in his first Belgian Pro League game of the 2025/26 season, coming on as a second-half substitute in the 1-0 win over Westerlo.
Antonio had spent the first two games of the campaign on the bench. He played for 32 minutes after coming on.
Denmark-based defender Munashe Garan’anga was again an unused substitute when FC Copenhagen lost 3-2 to AGF in the Superliga.
The defender is yet to play in the league this season, with his only appearances coming in the UEFA Champions League playoffs last month.
In South Africa, the Betway Premiership season kicked off and a couple of Zimbabweans also took part in the weekend’s action.
AmaZulu’s new signing Thando Ngwenya made his competitive debut in the 1-0 win over Orbit College.
Ngwenya started the match as a striker and played the entire game.
Daniel Msendami also started for Marumo Gallants in midfield, while Washington Arubi was in goal when they won 2-1 against Richards Bay.
Edmore Chirambadare featured for Magesi FC in their goalless draw against Polokwane City, but goalkeeper and captain Elvis Chipezeze missed the action due to work permit issues.
Mamelodi Sundowns defender Divine Lunga was an unused substitute in their 1-1 draw at Chippa United.
Meanwhile, pre-season concluded over the weekend for Wolves pair Marshall Munetsi and Tawanda Chirewa, who were part of the squad that lost 1-0 to Celta Vigo on Sunday.
Munetsi came on as a second-half substitute, while Chirewa was an unused substitute.
