The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has confirmed that the Warriors will face Algeria and Qatar in international friendlies next month as part of their preparations for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The announcement was made by ZIFA President Nqobile Magwizi during a press conference. Both Algeria and Qatar have qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, offering Zimbabwe high-quality opposition ahead of the continental tournament.
Details regarding the venues and exact dates of the friendlies will be announced in due course.
The matches will be overseen by a new head coach following the dismissal of Michael Nees on Wednesday. While the appointment of his successor has not yet been confirmed, assistant coach Kaitano Tembo remains part of the technical team.
The AFCON tournament is scheduled to run from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026. Zimbabwe have been drawn in Group B, alongside Egypt, South Africa, and Angola.
The Warriors will open their campaign against Egypt on 22 December at the Grand Stade d’Agadir in the coastal city of Agadir, with kick-off set for 7 PM CAT. They will then face Angola on Boxing Day (26 December) at the Grand Stade de Marrakech, before concluding their group fixtures against South Africa on 29 December at the same venue.
