ZIFA President Nqobile Magwizi speaks on appointment of new Warriors coach

Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) president Nqobile Magwizi has confirmed that the process of appointing a new Warriors head coach is already underway, following the dismissal of Michael Nees on Wednesday.

Nees was relieved of his duties after a string of poor results, despite guiding Zimbabwe to qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Addressing the media on Thursday, Magwizi said the association is moving swiftly to find Nees’s replacement.

“There is a plan in place, and a committee is currently working on developing a roadmap for the appointment of the next Warriors coach,” Magwizi explained.

“We need to have clarity on the qualities we are looking for, and this will be finalised within the next three days. The executive committee will then make a decision once the shortlisted candidates have presented their credentials.”

The new coach is expected to be appointed in time for Zimbabwe’s upcoming international friendlies against World Cup-bound teams Qatar and Algeria during the November window.
