Highlanders FC players refused to train at Barbourfields Stadium on Thursday in protest over outstanding winning bonuses and sign-on fees.
Sources within the Bosso camp revealed that some players are still owed sign-on fees dating back to 2024. The squad has also threatened to boycott Saturday’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Matchday 32 fixture against Simba Bhora if the club’s administration fails to address the issue.
The protest comes less than two weeks after the club received US$250,000 from businessman Wicknell Chivayo — part of the US$1 million donation he pledged to Highlanders four months ago.
The first tranche of US$250,000 was disbursed in June, while the latest installment was intended to support player welfare, recruitment, and administrative expenses.
Meanwhile, Highlanders sit in 10th place but remain firmly in the relegation battle, as they are only two points above the drop zone with three matches left to play.
