Warriors vice-captain Marshall Munetsi will not be part of the squad taking on Algeria and Qatar in the upcoming friendly matches set for later this month.
The friendly games are part of the team’s preparations ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals to be held in Morocco.
And while ZIFA has not issued any explanation for his omission, many are now questioning whether his recent remarks might have influenced the decision or if it was purely a footballing call.
Speaking on South Africa’s Metro FM’s Sports Night Amplified with Andile Ncube recently, the England-based midfielder expressed concern over the governance of local football and also questions why there’s no dialog between administrators and players.
“… I think we really need to sit down both the administration and the players and I think in African football we don’t really have the time to have the administration also talk to the players and see what the players are facing because there’s so many challenges that we face as players that the administration don’t want to acknowledge and if they don’t acknowledge that I think we will always be in a similar position than what we did when we had the World Cup qualifiers” he said.
