Warriors did not work hard enough in Algeria defeat, says coach Marian Marinica

Warriors coach Marian Marinica believes his side did not work hard enough to produce a better performance in their friendly match against Algeria.

The game marked a difficult start to Marinica’s tenure as Zimbabwe’s national team coach, as his side fell to a 3–1 defeat.

The Warriors conceded all three goals in the first half, with Algeria dominating proceedings from start to finish.

Speaking after the match, the gaffer said: “I think our work ethic wasn’t there in the first half. I don’t think my players worked hard enough in the way I expect.”

Reflecting on the quality of the opposition, Marinica added: “They had many senior players absent, but they still had a very good team, coach and personnel.”

Algeria scored through Baghdad Bounedjah, Mohamed Amoura and Jaouen Hadjam, while Zimbabwe pulled one back in the 86th minute via a penalty converted by Tawanda Chirewa.
