There’s resistance in Warriors squad, says coach Marian Marinica

Warriors coach Marian Marinica has revealed that his players are resisting change and struggling to adapt to his new style of football.

Marinica took charge of the national team for the first time on Thursday in a 3-1 loss to Algeria in a friendly played in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Speaking to ZIFA Media, the gaffer said it is taking longer than expected for the squad to adjust to his approach.

“With new ideas, there is always resistance to change,” he said. “There were things that were done before that now need to be improved. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be here if everything had been working well.

“If they had seven or eight wins in the World Cup Qualifiers, I definitely wouldn’t be here. But there were no wins, so certain things must change – and it’s my job to make sure they do.”

Marinica added that no player has a guaranteed place in the team, stressing that selections will be based solely on performance.

The Warriors will face Qatar on Monday in their second friendly match, to be played in Doha.
