Qatar vs Zimbabwe: Preview, form, team news & more

Zimbabwe will face Qatar in their second friendly match on Monday.

The match will be played at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium in Doha, Qatar, with kick-off set for 6:30 pm CAT.

This fixture comes four days after Zimbabwe’s first friendly of the international window — a 3-1 defeat to Africa’s top-ranked side, Algeria, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Thursday.

Team News
Tawanda Chirewa has left the Warriors camp after Thursday’s match, in line with a prior agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers that allowed him to feature in only one game before returning to his club.

Brendan Galloway, who suffered a facial injury on Thursday, participated in Saturday evening’s training session.

Qatar coach Julen Lopetegui has named a youthful squad and opted to rest several key players for the encounter. Attacking duo Akram Afif and Almoez Ali are among those sidelined, along with defenders Boualem Khoukhi, Karim Boudiaf and Pedro Miguel, winger Edmilson Junior, and midfielder Abdulaziz Hatem.

Coaches’ Comments
Zimbabwe coach Marian Marinica: “We must select the most in-form players at this point in time to take us to AFCON and achieve what we want. The country has to be behind us, and the players must accept that, at the end of the day, we are here for them and they are all going to become the heroes.”
