Zimbabwean referee Brighton Chimene selected to officiate at 2025 AFCON

Zimbabwean referee Brighton Chimene has officially been selected to serve as one of the match officials at the 2025 AFCON finals, which will be hosted by Morocco next month.

Chimene recently took part in the referee selection course held in Egypt, and his inclusion for the finals is a testament to his strong performances and consistency.

The Cairo programme forms a key part of CAF’s final preparations, designed to ensure top-level officiating standards at the tournament.

Chimene attended the course as part of the Video Match Officials (VMOs) group, with CAF instructor Felix Tangawarima overseeing and mentoring the officials.

The reigning Zimbabwe Referee of the Year will be the country’s sole representative among the 73 officials selected for the competition.

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations will run in Morocco from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026.
