Rulani Mokwena’s Influence on Malibongwe Khoza at Sundowns

Rulani Mokwena, former coach of Mamelodi Sundowns, recently shared insights into his efforts to retain defender Malibongwe Khoza at the club. As Mokwena prepares to face his former team in the CAF Champions League with MC Alger, he reflected on the pivotal moments in Khoza’s career during an appearance on the African Five-a-side podcast.

Mokwena revealed that there was a time when Khoza was nearly released from Sundowns. He stated, “I don’t think many people know there was a time where he was almost released from Sundowns and I fought.” Mokwena emphasized his belief in Khoza’s potential and worked closely with then-DDC coach Themba Badela to ensure Khoza received ample playing time as a center-back.

Mokwena also mentioned that coach Manqoba Mngqithi supported his decision to keep Khoza at the club. “Coach Manqoba knows… Fortunately, he backed me a lot on this when I said ‘the player has to stay,’” Mokwena added.

Khoza has since become an integral part of the team, showcasing significant potential and growth. This development comes as Sundowns continue their journey in various competitions.
