CAF reveals Warriors’ final AFCON squad submission deadline

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed the deadline for the submission of final squads for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The tournament will run from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026 in Morocco, with Zimbabwe among the participating nations.

All teams were initially required to submit a provisional squad of up to 55 players.

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) unveiled the Warriors’ 55-man preliminary squad on Wednesday, in line with CAF’s requirement for all participating teams to submit their provisional lists by 24 November.

According to the regulations, no player outside the submitted provisional list may be selected for the tournament.

Participating teams, including Zimbabwe, must then submit their final 23-man squads ten days before the competition kicks off on 11 December. Although teams may name up to five additional players, CAF will only cover costs — including travel, accommodation, and other competition logistics — for 23 players.

After the deadline, changes to the squad are only permitted in cases of force majeure, such as injuries confirmed by the organising committee.

Meanwhile, the Warriors will open their campaign against Egypt on 22 December at the Grand Stade d’Agadir, with kick-off at 7 PM CAT. They will then face Angola on Boxing Day (26 December) at the Grand Stade de Marrakech, before concluding their group stage fixtures against neighbours South Africa on 29 December, also in Marrakech.
