Ethel Chinyerere scored a brace for Zimbabwe in the ongoing Three Nations Women’s Tournament, securing a 2-1 win over hosts Malawi.
Chinyerere, affectionately known as Halaand in the football circles struck early to set the tone for the Mighty Warriors, opening the scoring in the 10th minute before doubling the score just before the interval with a composed finish in the 40th minute.
Malawi pulled one back two minutes later but Mighty Warriors held firm to claim a confidence-boosting win in the opening game of the tournament.
Goalkeeper Cynthia Shonga also had a decent performance behind the post.
For the Mighty Warriors, the win comes a confidence booster as they return to action since February when they lost to Angola in the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations qualifiers
Mighty Warriors play Zambia in their last and final game on December 2.
The team with the highest points will be crowned champions
