Head coach of the Egypt national team, Hossam Hassan, has admitted that the AFCON Group B game against Zimbabwe on Monday night was difficult.

The Pharaohs secured a hard-fought victory, with Omar Marmoush and Mohamed Salah finding the target in the second half as they came from a goal behind following Prince Dube’s first-half opener.

Salah’s goal came in stoppage time after a prolonged period of frustration and missed chances, despite Egypt dominating play.

Speaking after the match, Hassan said: “We missed more than one scoring opportunity and luck was not on our side – that is football. We were the better team throughout the match.

“Opening games are always difficult. The most important thing is winning these matches and securing the three points, and our performance in the upcoming matches will improve for the better. From now on, we are preparing for the South Africa match. I thank all the players for their efforts in the game.”

The result stretched Egypt’s dominance over Zimbabwe and placed them level on points with South Africa, who beat Angola 2–1 in another Group B match played on Monday.
