Nigeria have suffered an injury blow ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Round of 16 match against Mozambique.
Panathinaikos forward Cyriel Dessers will not feature again at the tournament in Morocco after sustaining a thigh injury during training. The setback comes just days before the Super Eagles’ next encounter on Monday.
“A thigh injury has ruled Cyriel Dessers out of the team. He has now returned to his club,” reads an update from an official from Nigerian FA.
“Twenty-five players trained on Friday evening. Ryan Alebiosu was at the team session but did not participate, as his recovery from a leg injury is ongoing. Tochukwu Nnadi also sat out of training due to a cold.”
Nigeria will face Mozambique in their Round of 16 clash on Monday, with kick-off scheduled for 9:00 p.m. CAT in Fes.
