Highlanders have released a statement confirming the appointment of Benjani Mwaruwari as the club’s new head coach.
A statement by the club reads: “Highlanders Football Club wishes to inform its members and stakeholders of an update to the senior team’s technical set-up.
“We are delighted to confirm the appointment of Benjani Mwaruwari as the senior team head coach. A respected figure and legend of the game who is highly qualified, Benjani brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and a deep understanding of the game as the club embarks on an exciting new trajectory.
“Further announcements regarding the full coaching structure and additional appointments will be communicated in due course.
“We thank our loyal supporters and stakeholders for their unwavering support and look forward to the journey ahead as we build towards a strong and competitive 2026 season.”
Mwaruwari’s appointment comes after the club revisited benefactor Wicknell Chivhayo’s offer to have Benjani Mwaruwari appointed as the team’s head coach.
The club had initially counter-proposed appointing Mwaruwari as technical manager, with South African gaffer Thabo Senong taking up the role of head coach.
However, Chivhayo was not interested in the club’s proposal, and the businessman was also reported to have reneged on his promise to sponsor the Bulawayo giants.
This prompted Bosso’s leadership to meet Chivhayo in Harare to reconsider the initial offer, while also ironing out details of the deal to appoint Mwaruwari.
The club will announce the rest of the technical team in due course, while also confirming details regarding Thabo Senong, who had signed a new contract two weeks ago as the new head coach.
