The president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, Rafael Louzan, says Spain will stage the final of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
Spain are co-hosting the tournament alongside Portugal and Morocco, while the opening three matches will be played in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay to mark the competition’s 100th anniversary.
Morocco has expressed interest in staging the final in Casablanca at the Grand Stade Hassan II, which is due for completion in 2028 and is expected to have a capacity of 115,000.
However, according to Louzan, the North African nation encountered problems during its recent hosting of the Africa Cup of Nations, including chaotic scenes during the final against Senegal.
“Spain has proven its organisational capacity over many years,” said Louzan. “It will be the leader of the 2030 World Cup and the final of that World Cup will be held here.”
“Morocco is really undergoing a transformation in every sense, with magnificent stadiums,” he added. “We must recognise what has been done well. But in the Africa Cup of Nations, we have seen scenes that damage the image of world football.”
Louzan did not specify whether Madrid or Barcelona would host the final.
Meanwhile, FIFA said last year it was premature to decide the venue for the 2030 World Cup final, noting that the host city for the 2026 final was only announced two years before the tournament.
