Wicknell Chivayo has delayed the disbursement of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) bonuses to the Warriors squad following a match-fixing allegation.

Chivayo had pledged to give the national team US$250,000 for their participation at the AFCON in Morocco.

Zimbabwe were eliminated from the tournament in the group stages after managing just one point from three matches. They lost their opening game 2–1 to Egypt, drew 1–1 with Angola, before suffering a 3–2 defeat against South Africa.

The loss to Bafana Bafana, however, raised suspicions of match-fixing after Zimbabwe conceded all three goals from avoidable mistakes.

Posting on X, Chivayo said the bonus money would be placed under a ZIFA trust and would only be disbursed once the allegations are resolved.

“Following the Warriors’ early AFCON EXIT, I had pledged to give them US$250,000 in CASH to uplift their morale,” he posted. “However, upon learning of a petition submitted to FIFA alleging match fixing in the final game against South Africa, I felt it prudent to temporarily withhold disbursement pending the results of the formal enquiry.

“As someone who respects the integrity of sport and the authority of FIFA, I now kindly request that this US$250,000 be instead placed under your custody Mr. President, for safekeeping and to be held in Trust.

“You can only disburse the funds to them ONLY once FIFA or any relevant authority has issued a definitive ruling on the allegations. Regardless of the outcome, the funds shall remain earmarked exclusively for football development purposes.”
