David Sejobe dies after a hit and run
The car allegedly involved in the hit-and-run that claimed the life of MultiChoice security guard David Sejobe has reportedly been located, following days of intense online mobilisation and public pressure.
Sejobe tragically died on Saturday after being struck by a vehicle while cycling to work along the Golden Highway in Orange Farm.
The driver reportedly fled the scene, leaving the much-loved security officer with fatal injuries.
Well known to many South Africans through a billboard near the MultiChoice premises, Sejobe worked for years as a front-of-house security guard at the company’s Randburg offices.
Colleagues described him as cheerful and warm, someone who greeted everyone who walked through the gates. He is survived by his three children.
In the days following his death, social media users rallied together to help identify the vehicle involved, sharing information, photos and tips as police appealed for dashcam footage and reports of damaged cars.
Attention soon turned to a grey Volvo that community members claimed had been seen parked near a church in Vlakfontein with visible tyre damage before driving away.
Recent posts circulating online suggest the vehicle has since been found.
However, the South African Police Service has not yet confirmed whether any arrests have been made.
As the investigation continues, tributes for Sejobe have poured in, including gatherings outside MultiChoice offices in his honour.
A crowdfunding campaign set up to support his family has raised more than R500,000, reflecting the deep impact his life and death have had on the public.
Police are still urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward.
Tip-offs can be directed to Siyathemba SAPS at 087 630 1000 or Warrant Officer Lebogang Toyane at 082 454 3746.
With funeral preparations underway, calls for accountability remain strong, as Johannesburg continues to remember David Sejobe for his kindness, resilience and the powerful reminder of what collective action can achieve under the hashtag #JusticeForDavidSejobe.
