Mac G spills the tea on Pearl Modiadie’s exit from Metro FM
Mac G has once again stirred debate after revisiting the circumstances surrounding Pearl Modiadie’s departure from Metro FM.
Speaking on the latest episode of Podcast and Chill, the outspoken host reflected on Modiadie’s long-running case, using it to spotlight what he described as the darker realities of the media industry.
According to Mac G, Pearl’s refusal to tolerate inappropriate conduct ultimately cost her position at the broadcaster.
“She got fired at Metro FM because she wouldn’t give out bums!” He claimed during the discussion, leaving little doubt about his stance on the matter.
Modiadie left Metro FM in 2021 following allegations that her former programmes manager, Anthony “Tony” Soglo, had sent her an email containing sexually suggestive remarks in November 2019.
The matter later escalated into a legal battle that stretched over several years.
In court papers, Pearl argued that the email in question severely damaged her reputation and caused emotional distress.
The message, sent as part of an email thread about a work booking, read: “Yo… since we are there… Can I also get asked that question? LOL! When do u need Pearl and for how long? Go.. Tumza..Pimpsta of the Year! Hahaha… sorry guys… that was just funny!”
Her legal team maintained that the remarks were degrading and portrayed her as someone being scheduled for sex by a “pimp,” an implication they said was humiliating and dehumanising.
Modiadie subsequently sued the SABC for R3.5 million, citing emotional and psychological harm, and alleged that such conduct had occurred more than once.
Soglo was later dismissed from his role at Metro FM and went on to attempt a countersuit against Modiadie in 2021.
YOH YOH YOH!!! 😳😳😳
MacG claims that Pearl Modiadie was fired from Metro FM because she refused to give out bums” to Anthony “Tony” Soglo?? 🤔
If that’s what’s being implied, in a real world this is a serious allegation, not gossip. 😬
But it’s in the newspapers! So! 🤷♀️🤣 pic.twitter.com/ZSqUstYtNa
