“Send me to jail”: Man refuses to return R2.5 million accidentally deposited into his account

A man has reportedly refused to return R2.5 million that was mistakenly deposited into his bank account.

According to reports, the funds were accidentally credited to the young man’s account, who then allegedly transferred the entire amount to another account, effectively preventing the bank from reversing the transaction.

Authorities began searching for him after the error was discovered, eventually locating and arresting him.

When instructed to return the money, the man reportedly refused, maintaining his stance even when only a portion of the funds remained.

“Send me to jail,” he allegedly told investigators, insisting that he would not be returning the money under any circumstances.

The case has drawn attention due to the sheer audacity of the man’s actions, as well as the legal implications of keeping money that was clearly deposited in error.

It remains unclear whether prosecutors will pursue additional charges beyond the original incident.
