Plymouth Argyle defender Brendan Galloway is facing a prolonged spell on the sidelines as he is set to undergo an operation.

According to head coach Tom Cleverley in an interview with The Plymouth Herald, Galloway will have a routine hernia procedure.

He is expected to spend four more weeks on the sidelines.

The defender was already out of action after sustaining an abdominal issue on January 31 in the match against Lincoln City at Home Park.

He had been on target for a possible return to action against Blackpool at Bloomfield Road on Sunday before suffering a setback in training.

Cleverley said: “Brendan was training yesterday and he felt a recurrence of his abdominal issue. He will have a routine hernia procedure on Monday and will be out for four weeks.

“We knew he had a hernia. He had an injection in the week to try to supress the pain, which you can play with. The injection can have a really positive effect or not have much of an effect.

“It obviously didn’t have much of an effect. We have to just do the procedure on Monday and hopefully he will be back mid next month.”
