Here’s the weather outlook for South Africa’s nine provinces.

The South African Weather Service has issued a warning for severe thunderstorms, which are expected to be accompanied by strong, damaging winds, hail, and excessive lightning. Hot and humid conditions are also expected, resulting in extremely uncomfortable weather.

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS

A. Yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours, damaging winds, excessive lightning and hail resulting in localised flooding and damage to infrastructure and settlements are expected over the north-western parts of KwaZulu-Natal.

FIRE DANGER WARNINGS

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the Ubuntu Local Municipality of the Northern Cape

A. Hot and humid weather will result in extremely uncomfortable conditions over north-eastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal.

Gauteng

Gauteng can expect partly cloudy and warm but hot in the extreme north with isolated afternoon thunderstorms.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index is High

Mpumalanga

Mpumalanga, the Place of the Rising Sun, can expect Partly cloudy and warm but very hot in Lowveld with isolated showers and thundershowers over the Highveld and escarpment but scattered in the extreme south-east.

Limpopo

In Limpopo, partly cloudy and warm to hot but very hot in places in the Lowveld with isolated showers and thundershowers over the central parts.

North West

North West, known as Bokone Bophirima in Setswana, can expect fine and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon with isolated showers and thundershowers in the extreme south.

Free State

In Free State, fine and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon with isolated showers and thundershowers in the north.

Northern Cape

The day will start cloudy with fog patches along the coast and adjacent interior at first, otherwise fine to partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated thundershowers in the north. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly.

Western Cape

Cloudy with morning fog patches along the northern parts of the west coast, otherwise partly cloudy to fine and warm to hot with light rain along the south coast. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-easterly, becoming strong along the south-west coast in the afternoon.

The expected UVB sunburn index is Very High

Eastern Cape

The Western half: Partly cloudy in the south, otherwise fine and warm to hot, becoming cloudy in the afternoon. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly.

The Eastern half: The day will start with fog patches in places south of the escarpment, otherwise fine and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy with isolated thundershowers. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly, becoming light and variable by late afternoon.

KwaZulu-Natal

Fine and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the west. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate northerly to north-easterly, becoming easterly to south-easterly south of Durban in the afternoon, spreading to Richards Bay by evening.
