Zimbabwe women’s national team beat Eswatini 2-0 in their opening Group B match at the 2026 COSAFA Women’s Championship played at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Thursday afternoon.
The Mighty Warriors opened the scoring in the 38th minute when Praynance Zvawanda headed home.
Substitute Rutendo Makore doubled the lead in the 55th minute, shooting from inside the box.
Despite not being on target after creating several chances, Christabell Katonha delivered a great all-round display and was heavily involved in both goals.
For this performance, she was named the best player of the match.
With only the top teams advancing to the knockout stages, the result gives Zimbabwe a crucial step towards qualification for the knockout stage. The result has also built the Mighty Warriors’ momentum ahead of tougher fixtures in the group.
Zimbabwe’s next match is against Zambia on 22 February at 3pm CAT at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.
The women’s national team will play their final Group B match against Botswana on 24 February at Seshego Stadium, with kick-off set for 12 noon.
