Mighty Warriors coach Sithethelelwe Sibanda said securing maximum points was the main objective after defeating Eswatini 2-0 in their opening match of the COSAFA Women’s Championship.
The goals came from Praynance Zvawanda and Rutendo Makore.
In a post match interview, Sibanda said, “When it comes to tournaments, it’s all about getting the points. And for me, getting the three points versus a country that has been active when we are just coming from the break, from the holidays, it’s a positive for the team, and I think we have got a good starting point,” she said.
And despite, winning ther opening match, Sibanda said the broader focus remains on long-term squad development.
This comes after three players made their debut this afternoon, these are Bethel Kondo, Anita Ncube and Macgirl Sipini. While Kondo and Sipini were in the starting line up, Ncube was added as a substitute in the second half
“The most important thing is to try and win as many matches as we can. So, at the end of the day, we wanted to expose our players into this game.
“I think with three games, of which I think they had a good game, and they started off very well, getting everyone to get that experience so that we will have a pool of a lot of players really to choose from when it comes to our matches that we play in the future,” she said.
