ZIFA searches for new head coaches for junior teams

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has begun the process of recruiting new head coaches for its junior national teams.

In a vacancies notice released on Friday, ZIFA invited qualified and experienced coaches to apply for head coach and assistant coach positions for the Under-23, Under-20, Under-17 and Under-15 national teams, for both boys and girls.

For the Under-23 and Under-20 sides, head coaches are required to possess a CAF A Licence, while Under-17 and Under-15 head coaches must hold at least a CAF B Licence. Among the minimum requirements listed are a valid CAF-recognised coaching badge, international police clearance, strong technical and leadership background, and full availability for the national team calendar. A FIFA Safeguarding Certificate will be an added advantage.

The Men’s Under-23 post is expected to attract significant interest, particularly after former Warriors captain Willard Katsande reportedly expressed his desire to take up the role.

Katsande, who enjoyed a successful playing career including a lengthy stint in South Africa, has been gradually transitioning into coaching and administration since hanging up his boots.

The U23 head coach will play a dual role, as he will automatically serve as an assistant coach to the senior national team, the Warriors. The arrangement is designed to ensure continuity between the junior and senior structures.

The successful candidate will replace Takesure Chiragwi, who stepped down from the post last year.

Applications for the advertised posts close on 6 March 2026.
