The International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Kirsty Coventry has confirmed an investigation into FIFA president Gianni Infantino after he allegedly broke a strict rule during a meeting with USA president Donald Trump.
Infantino is alleged to have breached the body’s charter, which requires members to always act independently of political interests and prohibits them from accepting mandates or instructions.
According to ESPN, the FIFA boss attended a peace board event hosted by Trump on Thursday in Washington, D.C., where he signed a partnership on behalf of the international soccer governing body that could see $75 million of soccer funds invested in Gaza.
“The Olympic Charter is very clear on what it expects of its members and we will go and research the alleged signing of documents, I guess,” Coventry said at her final news conference at the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, adding that she had been unaware of Infantino being “front and centre” at the peace board event.
“Now that you guys have made us aware of it,” she said after a second question on the subject, “we will go back and we’ll have a look into it.”
Infantino is among the current 107 IOC members who are bound by an oath to always act independently of political interests.
