Zim players based abroad round-up

Zimbabwean internationals were in action across Europe and beyond over the weekend, with several making telling contributions for their clubs.

Midfielder Marshall Munetsi opened his goal account for Paris FC after finding the net in their Ligue 1 draw against Toulouse FC on Saturday night.

The strike was his first for Paris FC since completing his move to the French side. The Warriors star marked a memorable moment in his early stint with the club when he struck in the first half to put his team ahead.

In Scotland, Tawanda Maswanhise maintained his lead on the Scottish Premiership scoring chart after netting in Motherwell FC’s 5-0 triumph against St Mirren FC on Saturday.

Maswanhise had gone two weeks without scoring, allowing Benjamin Nygren of Celtic FC to draw level on thirteen league goals. However, the Warriors forward restored his advantage by converting a 30th-minute penalty to move to fourteen goals for the season.

Elsewhere, Munashe Garananga returned from a minor injury suffered last week but was an unused substitute in Hibernian FC’s 2-1 win over Celtic.

In South Africa, Junior Zindoga was also on target as TS Galaxy secured a 2-0 victory over Mamelodi Sundowns to book their place in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals.

Galaxy were awarded a penalty just after the half-hour mark when Seluleko Mahlambi was brought down inside the box, and Zindoga calmly slotted home from the spot to double his side’s lead.

In England, Marvelous Nakamba and Sean Fusire were not part of the Sheffield Wednesday squad that fell 2-1 to Sheffield United, a result that confirmed their relegation from the Championship. Both players were sidelined through injury.

In League One, Andy Rinomhota remained unavailable as Reading FC played out a 1-1 draw against Port Vale FC.

Tawanda Chirewa of Barnsley FC and Brendan Galloway of Plymouth Argyle, who underwent surgery last week, also remained sidelined.

In Belgium, Bill Antonio came on as a late substitute as KV Mechelen beat La Louvière 2-0 in the Pro League.

Across the Atlantic, Teenage Hadebe started at centre-back for FC Cincinnati in their season opener against Atlanta United. He featured for 71 minutes as his side secured a 2-0 victory.
