Chippa United Snatch Warriors Defender
Sports Correspondent – South African side Chippa United have completed the signing of Zimbabwe international Isheanesu Mauchi, bolstering their defensive ranks ahead of the new season.
The 23-year-old centre-back makes the switch after an impressive stint with Simba Bhora, where his performances drew attention from several clubs in the Betway Premiership. Among those reportedly monitoring his situation were TS Galaxy, AmaZulu and Stellenbosch FC.
His transfer to the Gqeberha outfit puts to rest talk of a possible return to Zimbabwe’s domestic league. Local heavyweights CAPS United, FC Platinum and Scottland FC had all been linked with the defender.
Mauchi has committed his future to the Eastern Cape club by signing a two-year contract that will keep him at Chippa until 2028.
The Chilli Boys were able to accommodate the Zimbabwean following recent changes to their squad. Congolese defender Fasika Idumba departed for Al Ahly Benghazi, while Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali also moved on. Malian defender Abdoulaye Mariko has since returned to his parent club, Orlando Pirates, freeing up space within the foreign player quota.
During the 2024 campaign, Mauchi played a key role in Simba Bhora’s historic league success, featuring in 20 matches as the club clinched the Zimbabwean Premier Soccer League title.
His consistent displays have seen him earn consecutive nominations among Zimbabwe’s Soccer Star of the Year finalists, and he has since been called into the national squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
