Tinashe Sambiri– Controversial Citizens Coalition for Change Secretary General Sengezo Tshabangu on Tuesday publicly declared his support for the Constitutional Amendment Bill that seeks to extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s term of office beyond 2028.
In a statement shared on X, Tshabangu said:
“I wish to state my position clearly on the Amendment Bill recently gazetted by the Speaker of Parliament.
I unequivocally support it solely for the national benefit of ongoing economic growth, which is steadily unfolding. This matter goes beyond interests of political parties.”
The declaration has sparked intense debate, as Tshabangu’s support for the extension comes despite his party’s stated position on constitutional governance and term limits.
He added that his endorsement is motivated by what he perceives as the country’s broader economic interests rather than partisan considerations.
