Grandpa (74) Kills Man For Gossiping
By A Correspondent – Police in Chivhu have taken into custody a 74-year-old man following two separate stabbing incidents, reportedly triggered by rumours.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said on Wednesday that Never Nhire allegedly stabbed two individuals, one of whom died immediately.
According to reports, Nhire accused the victims of circulating rumours that he was romantically involved with multiple women in the village.
Commissioner Nyathi confirmed that the first victim narrowly survived and was taken to Nharira Clinic for treatment, while the second victim died at the scene.
He said:
“The ZRP confirms the arrest of Never Nhire (74) in connection with cases of attempted murder and murder which occurred at Mudavanhu Village, Chivhu, on 20/02/26.
“The suspect allegedly stabbed the complainant once on the head with an okapi knife, claiming that he had been spreading rumours about his relationships with several women in the village.
“The complainant managed to flee and was referred to Nharira Clinic, where he is reported to be in a stable condition.
“After the first attack, the suspect went to Itai Chidangure (62)’s homestead, where he stabbed him once in the neck over the same allegations.
“Itai Chidangure died at the scene. His body was taken to Chivhu General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.”
