Government Agents Abduct, Bash NCA Members Over 2030 Agenda…
Tinashe Sambiri– Two activists from the National Constitution Assembly (NCA) were allegedly seized and assaulted in Harare on Thursday shortly after attending an internal meeting to deliberate on Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3.
The organisation’s president, constitutional lawyer Lovemore Madhuku, confirmed the incident, saying the two members were targeted soon after leaving the NCA offices.
The alleged victims, identified as Naboth Sirora and Innocent Taruona, are said to have been intercepted by unidentified men and taken to an undisclosed location before being dumped in the Highlands suburb.
According to Madhuku, the incident occurred moments after the meeting had concluded.
“We had just finished our meeting and two of our members were abducted and tortured. They were blindfolded and later dumped in Highlands without clothes,” Madhuku said.
He indicated that the meeting had focused on concerns surrounding Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3, which has sparked widespread debate across the country.
Critics of the proposed amendment argue that it could pave the way for extending President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s term of office beyond current constitutional limits, a claim that has intensified political tensions around the so-called 2030 agenda.
As of Thursday evening, the Zimbabwe Republic Police had not issued an official statement regarding the alleged abduction and assault.
The reported incident adds to growing concerns among civic groups over the safety of activists engaging in debates around constitutional reforms.
