Preview: COSAFA Women’s Championship – Zimbabwe vs South Africa





Mighty Warriors face Banyana Banyana this afternoon in the COSAFA Cup semi-finals match scheduled to be played at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Kick off is at 3 pm CAT.

Zimbabwe finished as the best-placed runner-up after remaining ubeaten in Group B. They were equal on points, seven, with group winners Zambia but were only separated by goal difference.

South Africa, on the other hand, won Group A with after picking seven points.

Speaking ahead of the match, Mighty Warriors coach Sithethelewe Sibanda said: “As I have always said, we are taking each game as it comes.

“Football is played on the pitch and we are not reading much into history.

“We know South Africa is a strong side, but everyone is here to compete and win. We just want to give our best.”

Zimbabwe will play in the COSAFA Cup semi-final for the first time in three years; their last appearance was during the 2023 edition.

The winner between Zimbabwe and South Africa will face the winner between Zambia and Namibia in the final, which is scheduled for Sunday.

Zimbabwe has only won the COSAFA Cup once, while South Africa boasts of lifting the trophy seven times.

The match will be streamed live on FIFA+ and COSAFA’s YouTube channel, allowing fans across the region to follow the action.
