Sheffield Wednesday coach Henrik Pedersen has explained why Marvelous Nakamba has struggled for game time since joining the club during the January transfer window.
Nakamba has not played a single minute since making his debut appearance off the bench in a heavy defeat against Swansea City about a month ago.
The Zimbabwe international was also an unused substitute in the Owls’ loss to Derby County on Saturday.
Speaking in an interview with The Star, Pedersen suggested there are no fitness concerns surrounding the midfielder, but admitted that youngster Jarvis Thornton is currently ahead of him in the pecking order.
“Marvelous would have been the next player today (Saturday) to put on the pitch if we should change central,” the gaffer told the publication. “But right now Jarvis is in front of him.”
Nakamba joined Sheffield Wednesday after leaving Luton Town on a free transfer.
The 31-year-old will now hope to force his way back into the matchday action as the Owls continue their campaign in the EFL Championship.
