Zanu PF Hardliners Torment Journalist Over 2030 Agenda
By A Correspondent – Known Zanu PF activists have reportedly targeted a Masvingo Mirror journalist over her reporting on the controversial “2030” agenda, raising concerns about media freedom and intimidation.
Enock Nyuke, identified as a ruling party hardliner, allegedly sent a message in a Zanu PF WhatsApp group urging party members to monitor Alvina Chiwanika, the bureau correspondent for Shurugwi. He accused her of being opposed to a presidential term extension.
According to Masvingo Mirror, some members of the group supported Nyuke’s call, suggesting that Chiwanika should be treated as an enemy and “be dealt with severely.”
Others reportedly proposed barring her from attending public and government meetings where Zanu PF officials speak.
In a separate message, a woman identifying herself as Ellen, using the mobile number 0781083160 and claiming to be a national coordinator, reportedly sent a WhatsApp message directly to Chiwanika. She accused the journalist of attacking Zanu PF in her stories and issued a warning.
“Stop writing negative stories against the President, the Government, and the ruling party,” Ellen reportedly wrote.
The development has sparked concern among media watchdogs, who warn that such intimidation threatens press freedom and the ability of journalists to report objectively on political matters.
Chiwanika has not publicly responded to the messages, but the incident highlights the growing tension between political actors and the media amid debates surrounding the 2030 agenda and potential constitutional changes in Zimbabwe.
