Top Cleric In Beer & Women Abuse Allegations
By A Correspondent-A dispute between two Zimbabwean preachers has spilled into the public arena after popular street evangelist Trymore Muparinga filed a police report accusing fellow cleric Apostle Dickson Nhumwa of cyberbullying.
Muparinga, known for his comic street-style sermons that blend humour, drama and social commentary to attract large crowds in townships and city centres, reported Nhumwa to police after the apostle posted a video on social media accusing him of abusing church offerings.
In the widely circulated video, Nhumwa alleged that Muparinga was misusing money collected during his preaching sessions to pursue women and buy alcohol.
“Mukomana (Muparinga), akunyanya kuti pese paaenda kunoparidza apihwa mari dzepa altar odzishandisa kudhakwa ne kukecha,” Nhumwa claimed in the video, accusing the evangelist of diverting offerings meant for ministry work.
However, Muparinga has strongly denied the allegations, insisting that the claims are malicious and motivated by jealousy.
According to Muparinga, the accusations stem from a dispute after he reportedly received financial support from controversial businessman Sir Wicknell Chivayo, a benefactor known for donating vehicles and cash to church leaders, musicians and social media personalities.
Muparinga said Nhumwa became hostile after demanding a share of the money he received from Chivayo.
The flamboyant evangelist has built a strong following on the streets and on social media through a distinctive preaching style that mixes comedy, satire and gospel messages. His performances often resemble stand-up comedy sessions, using everyday township language, jokes and exaggerated storytelling to draw crowds before delivering religious messages.
Critics, however, say the theatrical approach has blurred the line between ministry and entertainment, with some questioning the growing culture of spectacle-driven preaching among younger Pentecostal evangelists.
Police sources confirmed that a report had been filed, although no arrests had been made by the time of publication.
The public feud has ignited debate on social media about accountability among charismatic preachers and the growing influence of wealthy benefactors in Zimbabwe’s Pentecostal churches.
