Madhuku Vows to Defeat ED 2030 Bill – Eduzim News

By A Correspondent| Constitutional law expert and opposition figure Lovemore Madhuku has vowed to resist the proposed Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill, declaring that growing public opposition will ultimately defeat the controversial measure.

In a statement posted on social media on 15 March 2026, exactly two weeks after what he described as a “brutal assault,” Madhuku said he had drawn strength from Zimbabweans who are firmly against the proposed changes.

“15 March 2026, exactly 14 days from the 1 March 2026 BRUTAL ASSAULT, I was greatly inspired and encouraged by these Zimbabweans who are TOTALLY OPPOSED to the ED 2030 Constitutional Bill. WE WILL DEFEAT ED 2030 Constitutional Bill,” he said.

Madhuku was reportedly assaulted by police earlier this month while addressing supporters of his party at his offices in Harare. The incident drew concern from civil society groups and opposition circles, with critics accusing authorities of using heavy-handed tactics to silence dissenting voices.

The outspoken lawyer has emerged as one of the leading figures opposing the proposed constitutional amendment, which has sparked debate across the country. He is also representing a group of war veterans who have mounted a legal challenge against the bill, arguing that it undermines democratic principles and constitutional safeguards.

The Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill, often referred to by critics as the “ED 2030 Bill,” has become a flashpoint in Zimbabwe’s political discourse, with opponents warning it could entrench executive power, while proponents argue it is necessary for governance continuity.

Despite the alleged assault, Madhuku signaled he remains undeterred, insisting that public resistance will play a decisive role in shaping the outcome of the legislative process.
