All Mutangaz Murder Suspects Arrested

By Crime and Courts Reporter-Police say all suspects linked to the murder of Ruwa businessman Joseph Mutangadura have now been accounted for, following the arrest of two more suspects in Gweru.

Mutangadura, popularly known as “Mutangazi,” was shot dead on 17 August 2025 during an armed robbery at his residence, Mutangadura Hideout, in Ruwa.

According to police, seven masked robbers overpowered a security guard before forcing their way into the house, where they shot Mutangadura in the stomach and chest. The gang then ransacked a safe and fled the scene.

In a statement issued on Friday, 20 March 2026, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the latest arrests.

Two suspects — Solomon Wisdom Tariro (28) and Samuel Munyunguma (55) — were apprehended in Gweru on Thursday following a tip-off received by CID Homicide detectives.

Nyathi said the operation led to a shootout, during which one of the suspects, Valentine Mutasa (34), was fatally shot.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of two other suspects, Solomon Wisdom Tariro (28), as well as Samuel Munyunguma (55), in connection with the case and the subsequent death of Valentine Mutasa (34) following a shootout with police in Gweru on 19 March 2026,” said Nyathi.

“Acting on information received, detectives tracked the suspects to a service station in Claremount, Gweru. The suspects opened fire upon being confronted, leading to a shootout.”

He added that another suspect, Obedience Mutasa, managed to escape during the exchange of fire.

Solomon Tariro and Valentine Mutasa were both injured in the shootout and taken to hospital, where Valentine Mutasa was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police recovered a 9mm Canik pistol loaded with two live rounds, as well as an Ekol 9mm blank pistol with two blank cartridges.

Nyathi said investigations had established that the Canik firearm had been stolen in Mberengwa in September 2025.

He further revealed that Samuel Munyunguma is assisting police with investigations into two additional armed robbery cases in Zvishavane and Mberengwa.

“The public should take note that all suspects in the murder of Joseph Mutangadura have now been accounted for,” Nyathi said.

He commended members of the public for providing information that led to the arrests and urged continued cooperation in reporting criminal activity through the National Complaints Desk or at nearest police stations.
