Mnangagwa’s Ferret Team Torments Travellers As Citizens Resist 2030 Agenda
Tinashe Sambiri– Chaos erupted over the weekend along the Beitbridge-Masvingo Road as Zimbabwean security forces carried out heavy-handed checks amid growing resistance to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s 2030 agenda.
At Rutenga, travellers from as far as Masvingo and Ngundu were forced to turn back while buses and other passenger vehicles were subjected to exhaustive searches, leaving South African-bound passengers stranded for a second day.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, one traveller said, “We have been stuck here since yesterday. They make us pay for our groceries and other things while searching the buses. It feels like extortion.”
Another added, “ZIMRA officials are asking for money everywhere. It’s corruption in the open. We cannot move until we pay what they demand.”
The operation has been linked to Zimbabwe’s so-called “Ferret Force,” a combined security team comprising the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO), military intelligence, and the Zimbabwe Republic Police.
