WestProp Expands Horizons to Chivhu
By Business Reporter-WestProp Holdings is opening a new chapter in its growth trajectory with an ambitious expansion into Chivhu, Mashonaland East, positioning the town as a future hub of investment, tourism and modern urban living.
Located about 90 minutes from Harare, Chivhu is strategically placed at the intersection of key transport routes linking Harare, Gweru, Masvingo, Bulawayo, Mutare and Victoria Falls. It also serves as a vital corridor to regional markets in South Africa, Botswana and Mozambique, making it a natural midpoint for trade and logistics.
WestProp’s new development will be situated approximately 8 kilometres outside Chivhu along the road to the Dinson iron and steel plant, opposite the well-known Denise Kitchen. The project is set to transform the area into a modern mixed-use city.
The site itself carries historical significance. Formerly known as Tangenhamo, it was once a thriving tourist destination that attracted visitors from across the world. WestProp now aims to revive and modernise this legacy, turning Chivhu into a vibrant centre for tourism, commerce and community life.
Chivhu’s economy has long been anchored in agriculture and mining, including tobacco farming, cattle ranching, and iron and steel production. Coupled with strong diaspora links to surrounding towns and cities, the area presents significant potential for sustainable urban development.
Through this expansion, WestProp is seeking to unlock that potential by introducing modern housing, integrated infrastructure and community-focused spaces. The development will align with the company’s “live, work, shop andplay” model, which has defined its flagship projects.
Chief executive officer Mr Ken Sharpe said the initiative places responsibility on local communities to embrace the transformation.
“The onus is now on the people of Chivhu and surrounding areas to embrace the emergence of a smart city within their commune,” he said.
“We are happy to be expanding. We have largely focused on Harare, but due to growing demand for outward expansion, Chivhu has become our immediate priority. We intend to be a corridor for growth in Chivhu and nearby centres.”
WestProp is known for high-end developments such as Pokugara, Millennium Heights, Pomona City and The Hills Luxury Golf Estate, and is expected to replicate similar standards in Chivhu.
Beyond real estate, the project is also set to revitalise the town’s declining tourism infrastructure, signalling a broader vision to reposition Chivhu as a symbol of progress, connectivity and economic opportunity in Zimbabwe’s evolving urban landscape.
