Marian Marinica gives positive assessment on Warriors performance, talks about achieving set targets after beating Botswana

Warriors coach Marian Marinica has given a positive assessment of his charges’ performance after beating Botswana 3-0 in the semi-final of the Mukuru Four-Nation Tournament.

The game was played at Obed Itani Stadium, with Zimbabwe producing a commanding display to secure the win.

Mongameli Tshuma, Macauley Bonne and Bill Antonio, who also assisted the first two goals, were all on target in the first half.

Goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze proved crucial in the second half, making a couple of big saves, including stopping a 65th-minute penalty.

Speaking after the match, Marinica said: “We managed to keep a clean sheet, even though Botswana is a tough team.

“We got the chances and the players took them fantastically well. On that point of view, I’m extremely pleased.

“We try to give everyone a chance, and the other players take that opportunity with both hands.”

Marinica also spoke about the team’s progress and their focus on achieving set targets following the win.

He added: “I also want to applaud the backroom staff because they work very hard behind the scenes for us to achieve the result. With the small steps like this, we hope we will achieve what we want.”

The victory sent Zimbabwe into the final, where they will face Zambia on Tuesday at 6 pm CAT. Botswana will take on Malawi in the third-place play-off.
