Extreme heat in the Cape, rain looms in 2 provinces

Here’s the weather outlook for South Africa’s nine provinces.

The South African Weather Service has issued an advisory that hot and humid weather will result in extremely uncomfortable conditions in some places until Friday.

Heatwave with persistently high temperatures can be expected in places over most parts of the Eastern Cape, except in the extreme east until Friday the 3rd of April 2026.

Weather conditions and UVB forecast in South Africa’s provinces

Gauteng

Gauteng can expect partly cloudy and warm, but hot in the extreme north.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index is High.

Mpumalanga

Mpumalanga, the Place of the Rising Sun, can expect cloudy with morning fog patches in places in the extreme south, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and rain in the east.

Limpopo

In Limpopo, cloudy with morning fog patches in the extreme south-east, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and rain in the east.

North West

North West, known as Bokone Bophirima in Setswana, can expect partly cloudy and warm, with isolated showers and thundershowers over the western parts.

Free State

In Free State, morning fog patches in the extreme east, otherwise partly cloudy.

Northern Cape

The day will start with partly cloudy and warm to hot, with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the east, except in places in the extreme east parts. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate southerly to south-westerly.

Western Cape

Cloudy in the west, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered over the central and western parts. The wind along the coast will be light and variable in the morning, otherwise light to moderate southwesterly but light to moderate easterly to south-easterly along the south coast.

The expected UVB sunburn index is Very High

Eastern Cape

The Western half: Cloudy with fog patches in places in the south at first, otherwise partly cloudy AND HOT with isolated thundershowers. The wind along the coast will be light and variable west of Algoa Bay, otherwise moderate to fresh northeasterly.

The Eastern half: The day will start with Cloudy with fog in places south of the escarpment at first, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot. The wind along the coast will be fresh, strong north-easterly.

KwaZulu-Natal

Morning fog over the interior, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers in the western and northern parts. The wind along the coast will be moderate south-easterly north of Richards Bay, otherwise moderate to fresh easterly to north-easterly.
