Zimbabwe Warriors Climb Slightly in Latest FIFA Rankings After Botswana Win
Sports Correspondent -The Zimbabwe national football team, the Warriors, have inched up in the latest FIFA world rankings released on Wednesday, following their successful outings during the March international break.
Zimbabwe featured in the invitational Mukuru Four-Nation Tournament, securing victories in both of their matches.
The Warriors defeated Botswana 3-0 in the semi-finals on Saturday before edging Zambia 1-0 in the final on Tuesday.
However, FIFA’s official rankings only considered the result against Botswana in the points calculation. Zambia’s match against Argentina on the same day was the only officially recorded game during the March window for ranking purposes.
As a result, the win over Botswana propelled Zimbabwe two places up the world rankings to number 130, a slight improvement from their worst-ever position of 132. On the African continental table, Zimbabwe remain in 37th position.
Morocco continues to dominate the African rankings, while France has now overtaken Spain as the top-ranked team in the world.
Africa Top 10: 1. Morocco, 2. Senegal, 3. Nigeria, 4. Algeria, 5. Egypt, 6. Ivory Coast, 7. Tunisia, 8. Cameroon, 9. DR Congo, 10. Mali
World Top 10: 1. France, 2. Spain, 3. Argentina, 4. England, 5. Portugal, 6. Brazil, 7. Netherlands, 8. Morocco, 9. Belgium, 10. Germany
