ANCYL demands young leaders in Panyaza Lesufi’s cabinet – SABC News

The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) in Gauteng has reiterated its call for the inclusion of young people in the executive council.

This is after the league slammed Premier Panyaza Lesufi’s recent cabinet reshuffle, which saw the appointment of the Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF) Nkululeko Dunga as the province’s new MEC for Finance.

The ANCYL says that Lesufi’s decision to appoint Dunga continues a troubling pattern of young people being excluded from decision-making positions, while also contradicting the party’s resolutions to appoint ethical servants for the people.

“Our primary reason for the call is not for any individual but of course the principle, which the bigger should be that for three consecutive reshuffles, the ANC in Gauteng has failed to show confidence in young people,” says the ANCYL’s Nelisiwe Nkomo.

She says the ANCYL feels like this is an insult to young people in the province because they believe that there are capable leaders like the provincial chairperson, Ntsako Mogobe, who they feel should have been included in the executive.

“Appointing a young person in the executive would bring innovation and, of course, a direct understanding of challenges that young people are going through,” she adds.
