“Chamisa Blasts ‘Charade’ Hearings, Says Process Is Rigged and Deceptive”

Tinashe Sambiri– Citizens leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa has strongly dismissed the ongoing public hearings on the Constitutional Amendment Bill, describing the process as flawed and unrepresentative of the will of the people.

In a sharply worded statement issued on Wednesday, Chamisa criticized the outreach meetings, arguing that they had deviated from their intended purpose of gathering genuine public input.

“What were supposed to be citizens’ public hearings on the constitutional amendment bill have turned out to be a circus of choreographed, coached, and rehearsed ZANU (PF) slogans and rallies,” he said.

Chamisa further alleged that the process had been manipulated to create an illusion of public support for the proposed amendments.

“The ‘outreach’ has become an ‘in-reach’ for a ZANU violent circus to reproduce their own contrived voices. This is nothing but a desperate attempt to create manufactured consent and lie that the citizens support this otherwise hugely unpopular Bill,” he added.

He went on to describe the meetings as chaotic and lacking credibility, claiming they were driven by coercion at local political structures.

“The chaotic and shambolic outreach meetings are nothing but ZANU (PF) DCC-coerced gatherings,” Chamisa said.

Calling for a shift in approach, Chamisa urged Zimbabweans to assert their democratic rights and demand a more legitimate process.

“Citizens must reclaim their voice, power, and authority to be heard and to matter once more,” he said.
He emphasized that the country’s challenges could only be resolved through a broader constitutional solution, rooted in the will of the people.

“Only a constitutional settlement to this constitutional crisis, and a citizen government, is the only credible and bankable solution to the problems affecting Zimbabwe,” Chamisa stated.

Chamisa also pointed to disputed elections and contested national processes as central to the country’s ongoing crisis.

“Disputed elections and national processes is the starting point to the resolution of the crisis. We, the citizens, are the answer,” he said.
