Zimbabwe made a fair start in both the boys’ and girls’ tournaments on Matchday One of the CAF African Schools Football Championship.
The tournament kicked off at Gateway High School in Harare.
In the boys’ competition, Zimbabwe played out a 1-1 draw against Uganda in their Group A opener.
Moses Marumedze gave the hosts the lead early in the first half, but Uganda responded almost immediately, equalising straight from the restart.
In the girls’ competition, Zimbabwe faced favourites Morocco in their Group A opener.
The Under-15 girls secured a 2-2 draw against the North Africans, with Lekavia Jaravani and Winnie Mapuwa both finding the back of the net to give Zimbabwe a first-half advantage.
However, Morocco scored once in each half to ensure the spoils were shared.
Action continues on Tuesday, with all matches set to be played at Gateway High School.
